Specimen Required:

 

 

Draw 4 full, light blue-top (citrate) tubes (4.5 mL blood in EACH tube).  DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.  (CLOTTED BLOOD OR AN INSUFFICIENT SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Send citrated whole blood promptly at ambient temperature only to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Avoid hemolysis.  If patient’s hematocrit is <20% or >50%, call BJ Hematology (2-5202) for specimen collection.

 

 

NOTE:

1.

Physician must contact BJ Hemostasis/Hematology Resident (beeper 424-1154) for approval before this test is ordered.

 

 

 

1.

Draw a discard tube prior to light blue-top (citrate) tubes.  When collecting Specimen, blue-top should not be first tube drawn. 

 

 

 

2.

Tubes should remain stoppered.

 

 

Please complete a “Special Coagulation Testing Form” and forward it with the specimen.

DO NOT SPIN.  Send whole blood sample PROMPTLY to BJS at ambient temperature only.
