	Specimen Required:
		Submit an entire 24-hour urine collection in a urine container (with no preservative) supplied by St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated. Call 314-454-4161 to obtain container. Please note collection start & stop times on container.
		NOTE:			Random collections are acceptable and should be ordered as such.
					If either gadolinium or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered, the specimen should not be collected for 48 hours.
	Laboratory Notes:
		1.	Mix 24H urine specimen well and measure total volume collected. Record duration and total volume collected.
		2.	Aliquot 2.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) from collection (collected with no preservative, in a clean, plastic urine container(s) with no metal cap(s) or glued insert(s).) into a plastic, 13-mL urine tube or a clean, plastic aliquot container with no metal cap or glued inserts. Record duration and total volume on aliquot tube. See special instruction section, “Urine Preservatives” for multiple collections.
		3.	See special instruction section, “Metals Analysis — Collection and Transport” for complete instructions.
		4.	Refrigerate specimen within 4 hours of completion of 24-hour collection. Send specimen refrigerated.
		NOTE:		24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
	Urine Preservative Collection Options
		IMPORTANT NOTE:				The addition of preservative or application of temperature controls must occur within 4 hours of completion of the collection, OR an acceptable preservative must be added at the START of the collection. Urine tests which require that the preservative be added at the START of the collection are noted by an * (asterisk).
