Specimen Required:

 

 

Collect 2.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of whole blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or serum gel tube(s).

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin, separate and send 0.5 mL (minimum 0.2 mL) of serum frozen in a screw-capped, plastic vial.

DO NOT thaw / refreeze specimen

Reject due to hemolysis or lipemia

Caution: Antibodies to Trichinella spiralis may not be detectable until 3 weeks after onset of infection. Therefore, negative results in suspicious cases should be followed by repeat testing in several weeks.
