collection in a urine container (no preservative, metal caps or glued inserts)
supplied by St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Refrigerate specimen during
collection, and send specimen refrigerated.

High concentrations of gadolinium and
iodine are known to interfere with most metal tests. If either gadolinium- or
iodine- containing contrast media has been administered a specimen cannot be
collected for 96 hours. |

Laboratory Notes: |

|

1. |
Mix the 24Hr urine specimen
(submitted in a clean, plastic urine container(s) with no metal cap(s), glued
inserts, or preservative) well and measure the total volume collected. See
special instruction section, “Urine Preservatives”
for multiple collections. |

2. |
Aliquot 10 mL (minimum
1.0 mL) into a plastic, 13-mL urine tube or a clean, plastic aliquot
container with no metal cap or glued insert. See special instruction section,
“Metals
Analysis — Collection and Transport” for complete instructions. Record
total volume collected and duration of collection on aliquot tube. |

Refrigerate specimen within
4 hours of completion of 24-hour collection. Send specimen refrigerated. |
