Methodology: Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

Test Performed At:

Mayo Medical Laboratories   #8603

Specimen Required:

Submit an entire 24-hour urine collection in a urine container (no preservative, metal caps or glued inserts) supplied by St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Laboratory Notes:

1.

Mix the 24Hr urine specimen (submitted in a clean, plastic urine container(s) with no metal cap(s), glued inserts, or preservative) well and measure the total volume collected. See special instruction section, “Urine Preservatives” for multiple collections.

2.

Aliquot 10 mL (minimum 1.0 mL) into a plastic, 13-mL urine tube or a clean, plastic aliquot container with no metal cap or glued insert. See special instruction section, “Metals Analysis — Collection and Transport” for complete instructions. Record total volume collected and duration of collection on aliquot tube.

3.

Refrigerate specimen within 4 hours of completion of 24-hour collection. Send specimen refrigerated.
