Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

		Barnes-Jewish Hospital Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
	Specimen Required:
	Call Barnes-Jewish Hospital Laboratory Customer Service at (314) 362-1470 for collection instructions.
	SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:
		Bone Marrow
		Place 1 mL to 2 mL of bone marrow in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Invert several times to mix bone marrow. (Clotted bone marrow is not acceptable) Forward promptly at ambient temperature. Do Not Freeze.
		NOTE:	1.	If specimen is couriered, send Express Mail or equivalent Monday through Friday to avoid specimen degradation.
			2.	Please complete a “Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory Request for DNA Studies-Medical Genetics” and forward it with the specimen. This form is supplied by St. Louis Children’s Hospital or available at http://www.surgery.wustl.edu/bjcmdl
		Blood
		In 1 lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) or 1 yellow-top (ACD) tube(s), and send 1.0-2.0 mL of EDTA or ACD whole blood. Invert several times to mix blood, send to lab at ambient temperature.
		NOTE:	1.	A prior consultation with a medical geneticist is recommended.
			2.	Please complete a “Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory Request for DNA Studies-Medical Genetics” and forward it with the specimen. This form is supplied by St. Louis Children’s Hospital or available at http://www.surgery.wustl.edu/bjcmdl
	Laboratory Notes:
