If smooth muscle antibody is positive, smooth muscle antibody titer will be performed at an additional charge.

Specimen Required:

 

 

Collect 2.0 mL (minimum 1.0 mL) of whole blood in a serum gel tube(s) or a plain, red-top tube(s).

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin, separate and send 1.0 mL (minimum 0.3 mL) of serum to BJS heme.

 

Reference Values:

 

 

Titer <1:20: negative

 

 

 

 

 

Intermediate titers of 1:20 and 1:40 may be present in acute viral hepatitis, lupoid hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, and malignancy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Titer of ³1:80 is highly suggestive of chronic active hepatitis.
