STR PRE-BONE MARROW ENGRAFTMENT:  DNA ANALYSIS - PATIENT

 

Method: Short Tandem Repeat (STR) polymorphic DNA markers are amplified by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), labeled with fluorescent markers and used to distinguish patient and donor cells as different.

 

(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)

SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

 

 

 

Blood

 

Collect 1 lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) or 1 yellow-top (ACD) tube.  (Minimum 1.0 - 2.0 mL whole blood.) Invert several times to mix blood.  Send to lab at ambient temperature.

Bone Marrow

 

Place 1.0 - 2.0 mL of bone marrow in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube.  Invert several times to mix bone marrow.  (CLOTTED SPECIMENS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.)  Send specimen at ambient temperature.

Tissue

 

10 mm3 block of fresh frozen tissue in a sterile plastic container.   Send frozen tissue in container on dry ice directly to the lab.

Buccal Swab

 

DNA may be isolated from cells obtained by buccal swab.  Please call BJH (314) 632-1470 about the collection system and shipment.

Blood Spot Cards

 

One 3 mm diameter blood spot card is sufficient for PCR-based test.  Allow blood to dry on filter paper and send card enclosed in envelop of plastic to the lab at ambient temperature.
