This test does NOT routinely detect
Bordetella parapertussis, which may account for approximately 5%
of pertussis cases. Contact the
Virology supervisor at (314)-454-6039 , or Virology Lab at (314)-454-2036 if
testing for Bordetella parapertussis is required. |

Submit two Nasophayngeal swabs as
follows: |
|
|
Place one swab in Universal
Transport Media (UTM)- PCR test is performed on this swab. Place one swab in Regan Lowe Media- media is available at no charge from
the State lab by calling 573-751-3334. Specimen forwarded to MO State Lab if
PCR testing is positive (epidemiological use only) |

Alternative specimen: a nasopharyngeal
(or nasal) aspirate/ wash can be collected and transported in a screw-capped,
sterile container within 24 hours of collection. |
