Call St. Louis Children’s
Hospital at (314) 454-4161 for special collection containers kit and sample
collection/ processing information. The total CSF volume required is 3.5 mL that will be aliquoted into
5 tubes provided. Attach patient identifier to each tube without covering the
tube number. If there is no blood contamination, place the tubes into a
biohazard bag and place on ice (or dry ice if available) at the bedside. |

Test Request Form and forward it with the specimen. You may also contact the lab at
314-454-4161 to obtain form. |

Laboratory Notes: |
|||||||||
|
|
Send one set of five
tubes with a total CSF volume of 3.5 mL. EACH
special collection container (1, 2 & 5) requires 0.5 mLs,
while tubes 3 & 4 require 1.0 mL each. If samples are not blood contaminated,
freeze at -80°C immediately. |

1. |
If the sample is blood
contaminated, the tubes should immediately be centrifuged prior to freezing)
and the clear spinal fluid transferred to new similarly labeled tubes then frozen ASAP. |

Send a completed Neurochemistry
Test Request Form with the specimen.

3. |
Sample should only be
shipped Monday-Thursday. |
||||||
|
|
|
4. |
Ship specimen frozen on
3-4 lbs of dry ice by FedEx overnight express service. |
