Specimen Required:

 

 

Collect 1.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of whole blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or serum gel tube(s). 

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin down and send 0.3 mL (minimum 0.2 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, round-bottom, plastic vial.  Forward promptly.

The presence of IgM class antibodies or a fourfold or greater rise in paired sera IgG titer indicates recent infection.  The presence of demonstrable IgG generally indicates past exposure and immunity.
