Specimen Required:

 

 

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send 2.0 mL (pediatric: 1.0 mL) of EDTA whole blood.  SPECIMEN CANNOT BE FROZEN.

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

DO NOT SPIN.  Send 2.0 mL (1.0 mL minimum) EDTA whole blood refrigerated. Specimen cannot be frozen.

 

 

NOTE:

PATIENT’S AGE IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.

 

 

 

Will also accept ACD whole blood.

PRECAUTIONS:

False-positive results will be obtained in blood specimens that contain >5% fetal hemoglobin or in specimens that are received more than a week after the blood has been drawn.
