Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH): Aneuscreen

Cytogenetics Laboratory at Washington University Pathology

 

Specimen Required:

 

SEND ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

 

 

 

 

 

Amniotic Fluid:

 

 

Discard first 2 mL of amniotic fluid. Collect 15-25 mL in a sterile syringe, use sterile technique to transfer to 15 mL sterile screw-top plastic conical tubes for transport. Uniquely identify twins.

 

 

 

 

 

Blood: 

 

 

Collect 1-2 mL (infants), 3-5 mL (Children), and 5-10 mL (Adults) blood  into a sterile 15 mL green-top (sodium heparin) tube(s). Invert tube immediately upon completion of blood collection to prevent formation of clots. Send to laboratory the same day.

 

 

NOTES:

Include a completed Cytogenetics Requisition Form and forward it with the specimen.

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

Do not centrifuge. Do not freeze. Send to lab ASAP.
