	Specimen Required:
	SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:
		Plasma
		Collect 6.0 mL (minimum 1.5 mL) of whole blood in a (green-top, sodium heparin) tube(s). (Plasma gel tube is not acceptable).
		NOTE:		Trough levels are most reproducible.
				Submission of the minimum volume results in an elevated reporting limit and inability of repeat analysis.
		Serum
		Collect 6.0 mL (minimum 1.5 mL) of whole blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). (SERUM gel tube is not acceptable).
		NOTE:		Trough levels are most reproducible.
				Submission of the minimum volume results in an elevated reporting limit and inability of repeat analysis.
	Laboratory Notes:
		Spin, separate and send 3.0 mL (minimum 0.6 mL) serum or plasma refrigerated.
		NOTE:		1.		Indicate specimen type (serum or plasma) on conical tube.
				2.		Submission of the minimum volume results in an elevated reporting limit and inability of repeat analysis.

		Encainide						15-100 ng/mL
			Critical Value:				2500 ng/ml
		O-Demethylencainide (ODE)						100-300 ng/mL
			Critical Value:				1200 ng/ml
		3-Methyoxy-Ode (MODE)						60-300 ng/mL
			Critical Value:				1500 ng/ml
		NOTE:			Ten percent of patients do not form therapeutic concentrations of the active metabolites ODE and MODE. In these patients the recommended range for the encainide concentration is 300-1200 ng/mL
