Specimen Required:

 

 

Draw 1.0 mL whole blood blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Recommend acute and convalescent specimens. Convalescent specimen should be obtained 2-3 weeks after onset.

 

 

NOTE:

If acute and convalescent specimens are sent, label specimens appropriately (acute and convalescent).

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin down and send 0.4 mL (pediatric:  0.2 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, round-bottom, plastic vial. Forward promptly.

 

 

NOTE:

Reject if grossly hemolyzed and/or grossly lipemic
