Methodology: Enzymatic Competitive Immunoassay

Specimen Required:

 

 

Collect 3.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of whole blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s) or a green SAMPLETTE™ / MICROTAINER™ no earlier than 60 minutes prior to dose. Since absorption is complete by 4 hours, specimens drawn 4 or more hours after the last dose are acceptable.  A red-top tube (plain or gel) is also acceptable.

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin and separate.

 

Reference Values:

 

 

Generally effective level: 4-12 mcg/mL

 

 

Critical value (automatic callback):  >14 mcg/mL

 

 

NOTE:

Therapeutic or toxic effects of anticonvulsant drugs may occur at different concentrations in different patients, and the correlation between dose and clinical effects must be evaluated individually.

 

 

Critical test results will be called initially and every 24 hours thereafter.
