Specimen Required:

 

 

SPECIMEN MUST BE RECEIVED IN LAB WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF DRAW.

 

 

Collect 2.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of whole blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s). Place specimen in wet ice and deliver immediately to the laboratory.

 

 

DO NOT COLLECT SPECIMEN BY CAPILLARY METHOD

 

Laboratory Notes:

 

 

Spin, separate and place specimen on wet ice until analyzed.

 

 

NOTE:

EDTA plasma is also acceptable

 

Reference Values:

 

 

0-2 months:

20-90 mcmol/L

 

 

2 months - >18 years:

10-50 mcmol/L

 

 

Critical value (automatic callback)

>200 mcmol/L
