Student Services
Resources / Academic SupportStudents may participate in support services designed to give them the tools to ensure academic success and help build a sense of community. Services are appropriate for students who are in transition from another college or university, beginning their first college experience, re-entering academic life after long absences, experiencing learning difficulties, exploring and developing educational goals, or preparing for a second career. A Learning and Study Strategies Inventory provides meaningful and useful information about study patterns. Individual sessions are available for students to learn practical methods for succeeding. Topics include managing time and environment, reading textbooks, taking class notes, writing papers, using technology effectively, and managing personal stress. Specially trained individuals concerned with easing transition into higher education are available to assist students with special needs. Students can take advantage of tutors, student ambassadors, a writing tutor, study groups, and referrals for learning disability assessments. Students work with experts to learn to use the library effectively, conduct Internet searches, make interlibrary loans, and connect to other campus libraries. Faculty and staff maintain sufficient and varied office hours.
